Gomes dos Santos Surprises, Prokopcuka Repeats at ING New York City Marathon 2006<\/p>\n

Rather than the course records assumed to be a given by all involved beforehand, Marilson Gomes dos Santos and Jelena Prokopcuka won in times (2 hours, 9 minutes, 58 seconds and 2:25:05 respectively) that didn’t even make the New York all-time Top 10 list. What’s more, they did so in runaway fashion, as neither was seriously challenged by their All-Star pursuers for most of the race.<\/p>\n

Dos Santos becomes the first Brazilian to win the New York City Marathon
\nMarilson Gomes dos Santos became the first Brazilian to win the New York City Marathon on Sunday in a time of 2:09:58. Latvia’s Jelena Prokopcuka followed up her win of 2005 when she defended her title in a time 2:25:05<\/p>\n
