{"id":1614,"date":"2012-09-07T00:27:46","date_gmt":"2012-09-07T06:27:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.time-to-run.com\/marathon\/?p=1614"},"modified":"2012-09-07T00:27:46","modified_gmt":"2012-09-07T06:27:46","slug":"makau-gets-the-aims-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.time-to-run.com\/marathon\/news\/makau-gets-the-aims-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Makau gets the AIMS Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Patrick Makau, the Kenyan world record holder in the marathon and the main star of Saturday\u2019s Mattoni Prague Grand Prix, has a full day of social events behind him.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1615\" style=\"width: 550px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.time-to-run.com\/marathon\/news\/makau-gets-the-aims-award\/attachment\/aims-award\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1615 noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1615\" class=\" wp-image-1615 \" title=\"AIMS award\" src=\"http:\/\/www.time-to-run.com\/marathon\/wp-content\/uploads\/aims-award.jpg\" alt=\"AIMS award\" width=\"540\" height=\"360\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1615\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">AIMS award<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In the morning, he visited \u00dast\u00ed nad Labem, the location of the last of this year\u2019s races in the RunCzech.com running circuit (Volkswagen \u00dast\u00ed Half marathon &#8211; September 16). He met with the mayor, V\u00edt Mand\u00edk, and then took part in a discussion with students of athletic schools, from grades eight and nine. \u201cYou are young runners at the most important age. The main thing is to run hard together\u201d, he advised them. \u201cI am prepared to help you anytime and give you advice\u201d, he offered.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>When asked when he started running, he answered with a smile: \u201cWhere I live, life is difficult; you have to move around a lot. You have to go far for water as well as to the shop for groceries or to school. And so, we run there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the afternoon, he appeared at the Prague Mayor\u2019s residence on Mari\u00e1nsk\u00fd Square in Prague, where he received the AIMS (Association of International Marathons and Distance Races) World\u2019s Fastest Time Award for his excellent record of 2:03:38 from last year\u2019s marathon in Berlin.<\/p>\n<p>Makau broke the world record by 21 seconds last year on September 25th, beating the former record holder, Haile Gebrsellasie in the process. The record was officially accepted and confirmed by the International Association of Athletic Federations, the IAAF, and AIMS. Makau became the eighteenth holder of the trophy. One year ago he received the AIMS Athlete of the Year Award.<\/p>\n<p>Makau received the Award from the Prague deputy, Ji\u0159\u00ed Nouza, a member of the AIMS Board of Directors, Bruno Boukobza from France and Carlo Capalbo, President of the organizing committee of Saturday\u2019s Mattoni Prague Grand Prix, where Makau will run the Metro 10K Race.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am very happy that I got onto such a prestigious list and that I will get the award in a country where I have so many friends and I feel so at home. I believe that such great races will continue to be organized here,\u201d said Makau with a grateful yet shy smile.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPatrick is an excellent athlete and we are pleased to give him this award,\u201d noted Paco Borao, AIMS President. \u201cIt is my great honor to give this award in Prague, at the event of our Mattoni Grand Prix race.
