His winning effort was 24.35m.<\/p>\n<p>Also competing on day two of the championships was Joshua Hawkins who easily qualified for the semi-finals of the 110m hurdles after finishing second in the fifth and final heat in 13.71s (-0.6), the same time as the winner of his heat Lorenzo Perini of Italy. There was only one other athlete faster in the heats, Wilhem Belocian of France who won heat two in 13.70s (-0.7).<\/p>\n<p>Sterling Performance from Joshua Hawkins for Silver in Sprint Hurdles<br \/>\nJoshua Hawkins collected the silver medal in the 110m hurdles in a personal best 13.44s (+0.1).<br \/>\nRunning on the outside lane seven Hawkins rallied well over the closing stages and was just three hundredths of a second off the winner Andries Van der Merwe of South Africa.<br \/>\nHawkins bettered his pending New Zealand M17 record of 13.66s set on the North Shore three weeks ago.<br \/>\nHawkins had earlier qualified for the next round of the 200m after finishing second in heat 1 in 21.75s (-0.7) and qualified for the final of the 110m hurdles after finishing 2nd in the second semi-final in 13.77s (-2.1)<\/p>\n<p>New Zealand finished the championships 14th on the medal table and 20th on the points table, the best ever World Youth Championships for the country. It was also the first time with two medals at a World Championships at any level.<\/p>\n<p>Day one, 6 July results:<br \/>\nBrendon Barnett long jump qualifying 7.04m (+2.5) DNQ.
