\nOlympic and World shot put champion Valerie Adams continued her strong showing leading up to the world championships in Korea next month with a win in the shot put.
\nCompeting at Kungstr\u00e4dg\u00e5rden in downtown Stockholm, Adams beat her arch rival Nadezhda Ostapchuk of Belarus by 20 centimetres with a best throw of 20.57m.
\nHer series in the competition was 19.59m, 20.57m, 19.97m, x, x, 20.08m. Her New Zealand record is 21.07m.<\/p>\n
Adams said that her training is going well as she builds up for the world champs.
\n\u201cI\u2019m still in pretty heavy base training nothing towards competition, tapering or anything and that is because our goal is the world champs. I\u2019m pretty happy with the win, the goal was to win and to win with 20.57m I\u2019m pretty stoked about that but the series on the other hand wasn\u2019t that good,\u201d said Adams.<\/p>\n
Her next competition is at the Diamond League meeting in London on Friday.<\/p>\n
Nick Willis, in his best placing of the season, finished third in the 1500m at the Stockholm meeting in 3m 34.49s. Silas Kiplagat of Kenya won in 3m 33.94s from compatriot Asbel Kiprop who clocked 3m 34.42s. Willis is entered in the Emsley Carr mile at the London meeting on Friday and his recent form indicates that John Walker\u2019s historic New Zealand mile record of 3m 49.08s could be under threat.
\nStuart Farquhar threw a season\u2019s best of 84.21m to finish third in the javelin in Stockholm. This is Farquhar\u2019s best ever international result. Andreas Thorkildsen of Norway won with the world\u2019s best for 2011 of 88.43m.
\nThe Stockholm meeting becomes New Zealand\u2019s most successful Diamond League meeting with a first and two thirds.<\/p>\n

\nHolly Van Dalen improved to 10th place on the New Zealand women\u2019s all time 5000m list after finishing seventh in heat two of a mixed 5000m in 15m 41.68s. Malcolm Hicks DNF in the 5000m. Hayden McLaren was 4th in heat 1 of the 1500m in 3m 41.91s, with Hamish Carson 5th in 3m 42.06s. Malcolm Hicks was 3rd in heat 2 of the 1500m in 3m 45.67s.<\/p>\n

AUCKLAND
\nAnnual Glen Eden 10 mile road race \u2013 30 July 2011
\nJono Jackson and Tara La Grange repeated their victories of last year in the annual Glen Eden 16km road race on Saturday. Jackson, fresh from his fourth placing at the New Zealand cross country championships the previous week, was in a class of his own as he tackled the tough course with ease.
\nTreating the race as a training run Jackson was nearly a minute faster than last year as he took in the up hill climb to the Scenic Drive and the down hill scramble back to Ceramco Park. The 20 year old recorded 55m 16s to head in Chris Ritchie by a wide margin of four minutes. Josh Maisey was third in 61m 23s.
\nJackson said that he didn\u2019t push it too hard as he has the Auckland road championships this Sunday.
\n\u201cI train around the Waitakere Ranges every Sunday and it was like another training run. I ran hard early to get a lead and then got into a rhythm for the rest of the way,\u201d he said.
\nJackson will debut over the marathon distance in the Lydiard Legend marathon in the Waitakere\u2019s on 17 September.
\nLa Grange clocked in at 66m 26s, a minute slower than last year. Nicky Green was second in 70m 7s with Emma Hunter third.<\/p>\n
Rat Race 5km, Takapuna \u2013 27 July 2011
\nJosh Rawlinson won in 15m 52s, six seconds ahead of Joel Martin. Megan Stewart was the first woman in 19m 40s, from Bridget Larsen 19m 56s.<\/p>\n
Auckland Road Walking Championships, Keith Hay Park \u2013 31 July 2011
\nMike Parker won the senior men 10,000m in 52m 31s, with Karen Davison taking the senior women over the same distance in 1h 10m 36s. Sarah-Amy Drummond won the W19 5000m in 33m 56s. The 16 championships went to Andrew Jackson M16 in 30m 2s and Emma Dunbar the W16 in 38m 16s.<\/p>\n
MATAMATA
\n41st Round the Streets Relay \u2013 30 July 2011
\nHamilton Hawks won the senior men\u2019s relay in the 5 x 3300m circuit clockwise around the streets of Matamata. The Hamilton team of Tim Stewart, Michael Whitehead, Cory Whiting, Jacob Priddy and Kerry Suter recorded 50m 47s. Lake City was second in 52m 42s. Cory Whiting had the fastest individual time of 9m 53s with Tim Stewart running 10m. Lake City won the master men from Hamilton Hawks. Dave Cronshaw of Lake City was fastest with 10m 28s, one second better than Glen Sexton of Hamilton. The Hawks team of Camille Buscomb Jenna Hansen and Maureen Leonard won the women\u2019s relay from Tauranga. Hannah Barker of Lake City was fastest with 11m 18s. Hawks also won the master women with Anne Bradley running 13m 4s.<\/p>\n

\nRees Buck and Darryl Joyce clocked in with the same time of 2h 19m after covering the three peaks of Mt Crawford, Mt Albert and Hawkins Hill radar station. Angela Leck was the fastest woman in 2h 24m. Rees Buck and Angela Leck were the 9 peaks series champions for 2011. Darryl Joyce was second overall, five minutes behind Buck with Sophie Lee second in the women, 12 minutes down on Leck.<\/p>\n
