A two-time New Zealand Olympian, Smith, 29, holds the U.S. All-Comers record for the 13.1-mile distance of 1:07:36 at the Rock &#8216;n&#8217; Roll Mardi Gras Half Marathon in February. Smith admitted that she is still trying to mentally overcome a disappointing finish at Boston, but said today was a good start as she looks toward the ING New York City Marathon this fall.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This was not an easy course, but surprisingly flat for Providence, so it was a good workout for sure,&#8221; she said. &#8220;It&#8217;s great to run at home in Providence because I haven&#8217;t competed here in about ten years and I enjoy running Rock &#8216;n&#8217; Roll races. This was my first real training run for New York. The conditions weren&#8217;t ideal because of the rain, but I had fun.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>LONDON<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Diamond League, Crystal Palace \u2013 6 August 2011<br \/>\n<\/strong>Valerie  Adams has maintained her unbeaten run in 2011, winning the shot put at  the Diamond League meeting at Crystal Palace London. Adams was out to  20.07m to hand another defeat to arch rival Nadezhda Ostapchuk of  Belarus. Although Adams&#8217; throw was below her best for the season, it was  her biggest winning margin, 55cm, over Ostapchuk in their four clashes  this year. Her series was 19.80m, 19.72m, 20.07m, x, 19.79m, 19.85m.<br \/>\nAdams  leads the Diamond League shot put with 16 points, with Ostapchuk second  on 12 and Jillian Camarena-Williams (USA) third with 6 points. There is  one more shot put remaining in the Diamond League, in Zurich on 8  September.<br \/>\nAdams&#8217; next competition will be the World Championships in  Daegu South Korea, where the final of the women\u2019s shot put is in the  evening of Monday 29 August.<\/p>\n<p><strong>USA<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Rock \u2018n\u2019 Roll Providence Half Marathon, Rhode Island \u2013 7 August 2011<\/strong><br \/>\nKimberley  Smith won the half marathon raced in the rain in 1h 11m 54s. Smith won  by seven minutes with Tezata Dengersa of Turkey coming second in 1h 18m  56s.<br \/>\nSmith ran with the lead men\u2019s pack for the first few miles  before dropping back to continue on her own with no competition. Smith  said it was a good start to the lead up to the New York marathon on 6  November.<\/p>\n<p><strong>BELGIUM<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Flanders<\/strong><strong> Cup Meeting, Memorial Rasschaert, Ninove \u2013 6 August 2011<br \/>\n<\/strong>Hamish Carson was 8<sup>th<\/sup> heat 1 1500m in 3m 44.48s, Hayden McLaren was 13<sup>th<\/sup> heat 1 1500m in 3m 56.99s and Malcolm Hicks was 4<sup>th<\/sup> heat 2 1500m in 3m 47.77s.<br \/>\nStephen Isaac 4<sup>th<\/sup> race 3 400m hurdles 55.91s, 5<sup>th<\/sup> heat 1 100m 11.40s (-0.1). Andrew Kennedy 1<sup>st<\/sup> race 2 200m 22.62s (0.3), 2<sup>nd<\/sup> heat 4 100m 11.05s (-0.5). Rochelle Coster 2<sup>nd<\/sup> heat 2 100m 12.28s (-0.6) 6<sup>th<\/sup> final 12.33s (0.0).<\/p>\n<p><strong>AUSTRIA<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>Harakiri<\/strong><strong> Berglauf Mountain<\/strong><strong> Race \u2013 31 July 2011<br \/>\n<\/strong>Jonathan  Wyatt was fifth in the 10.4km +1170m race in 52m 25s. He was second  last year. Antonella Confortola of Italy won the women\u2019s race in 1h 2m  50s.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ITALY<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Giir di Mont 31km Skyrunning Mountain Race, Premana \u2013 31 July 2011<\/strong><br \/>\nAnna Frost was fourth in 4h 7m 48s, 19 minutes behind the winner Mirea Miro Varela of Spain.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WHANGAREI<br \/>\nNorthland Road Championships, Ruakaka \u2013 6 August 2011<\/strong><br \/>\n53  year old Ian Calder won the senior 10km title in 35m 58s. Jonny  Creelman (23) was second in 36m 25s. Chubby Hale won the senior women  7.5km in 34m 26s. Harry Linford the M16 5km in 18m 9s and Imogen Hall  the W19 5km in 20m 43s.<\/p>\n<p><strong>AUCKLAND<br \/>\n<\/strong>Auckland Road Championships, Unitec Mt Albert \u2013 7 August 2011<br \/>\nStephen  Lett added the Auckland road title to the cross country title won  earlier in the season with a convincing victory around the roads of  Unitec yesterday.<br \/>\nLett shared the lead with Jono Jackson and Alex  Parlane over the first half before clearing out for a solo effort over  the final 2500m. Lett recorded 32m 7s for the 10km distance, 28 seconds  slower than his second placing to Sam Dobson in last year\u2019s  championship.<br \/>\nLett said that the road title was something he has had in mind.<br \/>\n\u201cI  didn\u2019t want to leave it to a sprint finish so I had to try and go a bit  earlier and not leave it to the finishing straight with fast finishing  Jono Jackson there,\u201d said Lett.<br \/>\nJackson was second in 32m 27s with Alex Parlane third in 32m 47s.<br \/>\nLett now looks forward to the New Zealand road championships in Wellington in two weeks time.<br \/>\nLisa  Robertson made it three years in a row in the women\u2019s championship  cutting out the 10km in a speedy 36m 1s, 20s faster than last year.<br \/>\n\u201cThe conditions were a bit tough, with the head wind in parts, but I felt pretty good,\u201d said Robertson.<br \/>\nThe 28 year old jockey also celebrated her first horse race victory during the week.<br \/>\nLydia O\u2019Donnell was runner up for the second year in a row in 37m 26s with Hannah Barker third in 38m 9s.<br \/>\nDeclan  Wilson tapered off well for the Australian cross country championships  in Canberra in two weeks with a win in the M19 8km championship in 26m  7s. John Schreuder was second with Ben Moynihan third.<br \/>\nAshleigh  Williams won the W19 5km in 19m 8s with the Rachel Penney, 5km in 19m  5s, and Joel Martin, 10km in 35m 18s, the best of the masters.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TAURANGA<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Waikato Bay of Plenty Road<\/strong><strong> Championships, The Lakes \u2013 6 August 2011<\/strong><br \/>\nSteve  Rees-Jones won the senior men\u2019s 10km in 31m 31s, from Daniel Jones 31m  50s and Cory Whiting 32m 8s. Helen Rountree won the senior women in 36m  58s, from Camille Buscomb 37m 16s and Johanna Ottosson 37m 17s. Sally  Gibbs after her triumphs at the world masters champs was the fastest  master woman over 5000m in the W45 age group in 17m 36s. Glenn Sexton  was the best of the master men with 34m 5s over the 10km.<br \/>\nJulian  Oakley won the M19 8km in 25m 51s while Olivia Ritchie won the W19 5000m  in 18m 40s, Jacob Priddey the M16 in 19m 34s and Anneka Grogan the W16  in 19m 42s.<\/p>\n<p><strong>INGLEWOOD<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Taranaki Road<\/strong><strong> Championships, Karo Park \u2013 6 August 2011<br \/>\n<\/strong>Nathan Coombes won the senior men 10km in 33m 12s from Scott Van Dyk 34m 13s. Annie Johnson won the senior women in 42m 59s.<br \/>\nChaz  Hall won the M19 8km in 27m 4s, Emily Roughan the W19 5km in 19m 21s,  Rhys Bishop the M16 6km in 20m 6s and Melanie Tarrant W16 5km 22m 28s.<br \/>\nRachel Gilberd recorded 56m 38s in the W35 10km walk.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NAPIER<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Hawkes Bay Gisborne Road<\/strong><strong> Championships, Westshore \u2013 6 August 2011<\/strong><br \/>\nStefan  Smith won the senior 10km in 32m 21s with the title going to Eric  Speakman in 33m 48s. Megan Grant won the senior women in 43m 28s.<br \/>\nHastings  Phil McKay (40-44yrs) won the masters title for men over 35 years over  10k in 38m 01s followed by Napier\u2019s 60 year old Eric Phimister in 39m  06s with Derek Solomon from Gisborne third in 39m 35s. Hastings also won  the masters women\u2019s grade with Andrea Williams winning in 20m 20s over  her 5km distance from Margaret Morris in 23m 51s and Napier\u2019s Cheryl  Simpson placing third in 24m 37s.<br \/>\nA classy run by Grace McConnochie  from Gisborne Harriers over 5km ensured she won the W19 in a very good  18m 12s from Hastings runner Monica Burnard in 19m 29s with another  Hastings runner Nikki Powell placing third in 20m 15s while Napier\u2019s  Charlie Chittenden won the M19 in 17m 49s.<br \/>\nToa Elphick-Iaveat of  Napier Harriers retained his M16 title by easily winning his 5km race in  16m 52s from Gisborne\u2019s Campbell Parkinson in 18m 58s with Napier\u2019s  Leuan Edmonds being third in 20m 28s.<br \/>\nThe W16 was won by Napier\u2019s  Holly Manning but she could not claim the provincial title as she was  not a registered runner with ANZ so the title went to Anneka Smith of  Hastings United in 21m 03s followed closely by Napier\u2019s Annie Creagh in  21m 08s and club mate Holly Edmonds in 21m 48s.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WELLINGTON<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Wellington Road<\/strong><strong> Championships, Reservoir Road Wainuiomata \u2013 6 August 2011<\/strong><br \/>\nTim  Hodge won the senior 10km in 31m 8s, from Evan Cooper 31m 12s and  Alexander Wallace 31m 28s. Grant McLean was the best of the masters with  33m 32s.<br \/>\nGabrielle O\u2019Rourke won the women\u2019s 10km in 36m 26s, with  Tina Harris second in 37m 21s and Sarah Gardner third in 37m 34s.  Stephanie Mackenzie won the master women in 37m 55s. Other winners were  Yared Kebede M19 8km 26m 1s, Nicole Mitchell W19 5km 18m 32s, Marcus  Karamanolis M16 6km 19m 40s and Susannah Lynch W16 5km 19m 22s.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NELSON<br \/>\nTasman Road Championships \u2013 6 August 2011<br \/>\n<\/strong>Phil  Costley was tested by Harry Dixon in his quest for the Tasman road  title. Costley eventually took the lead at the mid way point and went on  to claim the title in a time of 31m 54s for the 10km. Dixon was 51  seconds back in second with Simon Mardon third in 33m 2s.<br \/>\nPaula Canning won the women\u2019s title in 38m 53s, while Brittany Stewart won the junior women\u2019s 5km in 19m 52s.<br \/>\nNyle  Sunderland, triple gold medal winner at the world masters championships  in California, won the women\u2019s 5km walk in 25m 51s. Peter Hague won the  men\u2019s walk in 28m 56s.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CHRISTCHURCH<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Canterbury Road<\/strong><strong> Championships, Pegasus Town \u2013 6 August 2011<\/strong><br \/>\nAlex  Fowler won the senior 10km in 31m 28s, from Andrew Davidson 31m 33s and  Luke Hurring 32m 50s. It was Fowler\u2019s first championship as a senior  having previously won the junior road title in 2009 and 2010. Martin  Lukes M40 was the best of the masters in 33m 1s. Fiona Crombie won the  senior women\u2019s title, for the third successive year, in 34m 40s from  Nicki McFadzien 36m 21s. Tracy Crossley won the W35 5km in 17m 38s.  Other winners were Laura Wood W19 5km 18m 6s, Alexander Gorrie M19 8km  26m 18s, Rosa Flanagan W16 5km in 17m 37s and Ben Musson M16 6km in 20m  28s.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ALEXANDRA<br \/>\nClyde to Alexandra 10km Road Race, incorporating Otago 10km Road Championships \u2013 6 August 2011<br \/>\n<\/strong>Daniel  Balchin scored a notable win in 31m 11s over Callan Moody 31m 36s and  Bevan Stevens 31m 40s. Shireen Crumpton won the women\u2019s race in 36m 17s,  from Rachel Kingsford 36m 51s and Genevieve Bourke 39m 10s. Roseanne  Robinson walked the distance in 51m 6s.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NZ CHILDREN\u2019S ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION NEWS<\/strong><br \/>\nThe NZ Children&#8217;s Athletic Association Annual General Meeting was held in Wellington on 30 and 31 July 2011.<br \/>\nRodger  Brickland stood down after his two year term as President.\u00a0 The new  President is Jan Cockeram from Tasman and the Vice President is Brian  Curry from Manawatu\/Wanganui.
