Newdick and national youth  champion and record holder Nicholas Southgate were third equal at 4.40m.  Newdick, silver medallist in the decathlon at the 2010 Delhi  Commonwealth Games, was delighted with the concept and the resulting  competition. He has seen it done overseas and has taken part in a couple  of them while travelling in Europe.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thought let\u2019s take it the next step and make it corporate and where a  lot of people could be. We were fairly lucky with the weather, the wind  was a bit hard but it was a good atmosphere with everyone having a good  time and seeing some good jumping, said Newdick. \u201cIt\u2019s great for us  athletes to take athletics to the people, it is just another novelty you  can do for a day out as well and it raises the awareness of our sport.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt gives people an option to see something unique in a weird place,  like pole vaulting in a caf\u00e9 \u2013 who would have thought today that that  was going to happen. We did it and that\u2019s the start,\u201d said Newdick.<\/p>\n<p>Eliza McCartney won the women\u2019s event clearing the bar at 3.60m with  Lucy Magill the next best at 3.30m. Jarli Heckmann of Germany was third  with 2.60m.<\/p>\n<p>O\u2019Hagan\u2019s Viaduct 5km, 24 January: Jon Healey 16m 40s, Jason Waite 16m 52s.
