\nPapakura Club 75th Jubilee Imperial Meeting, Massey Park \u2013 10 November 2012
\nFormer national 400m champion Louise Jones made a welcome return to the track on Saturday. Jones won the 100 yards in 11.50s and the 440 yards in 55.70s.
\nThe 27 year old secondary school teacher was sidelined last season with a knee injury and was unable to attempt a hat trick of New Zealand 400m titles after having won in 2010 and 2011. Her personal best 400m of 54.36s came in winning the title in Dunedin last year.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is great to be back after last season which was a downer with the injury,\u201d said Jones.
\n\u201cI was told to rest the knee for six months but only lasted three months as there is only a certain amount of bike riding and pool work one can do,\u201d she added.
\nJones has been concentrating on building up her strength and has yet to move into speed endurance.
\n\u201cI\u2019m quite happy with the runs today; the end of the 440 could have been better I just lacked a bit of speed.\u201d
\nHenry Boyhan (15) was impressive winning the men\u2019s 440 yards in 50.60s, while Austen Heuvel cleaned up the 100 yards in 10.40s and Dalton Coppins dominated the 220 yards in 22.13s. National junior 1500m champion Ben Moynihan won the mile in 4m 13.40s and Jacob Priddey was too strong in the two miles winning in 9m 39.90s. Sam Ulufonua was in winning form in the youth throwing events collecting the shot put with 17.38m and the discus with 53.03m.<\/p>\n

\nPutaruru Bell Round 1, Porritt Stadium \u2013 10 November 2012
\nNational 400m champion Kristie Baillie won the 100m in 12.34s (+1.1) while national youth champion Talia Horgan won the 400m in 56.62s. Arianna Lord won the 1500m in 4m 39.34s with the 5000m going to Camille Buscomb in 16m 51.30s. Daniella Botha W17-19 hammer throw 49.37m.
\nBlake Gordon won the 100m in 10.97s (+1.8), Michael Cochrane the 400m in 49.32s and Tim Stewart the 5000m in 15m 37.80s.<\/p>\n

HASTINGS
\nNorth Island Combined Events Championships, Regional Sports Park \u2013 10\/11 November 2012
\nNational senior decathlon champion Nicholas Gerarrd won the North Island title with a points score of 6777. His performances were: (Hand times) 100m 11.0s, LJ 7.16m, SP 13.36m, HJ 1.92m, 400m 53.5s, 110m H 15.5s, DT 34.72m, PV 3.70m, JT 51.59m, 1500m 4m 57.3s.
\nJack Henry won the junior decathlon with a score of 6237 and Jesse Bryant the youth decathlon with 6758.
\nPaige Harwood won the JW heptathlon 5029, Natasha Eady the W15 with 4178 from Flo de Bievre 3802. Callum Taylor won the octathlon with 4424 points.<\/p>\n

\nRegional team meeting round 2, Cooks Gardens \u2013 10 November 2012
\nNational junior champion and runner up in the national senior javelin throw championship Ben Langton-Burnell (20) broke the 70 metre barrier for the first time with a throw of 70.65m. His previous best was 69.52m at the Porritt Classic meeting in February.
\nScott Thomson cleared 15.35m (+5.5) in the triple jump. He also had a legal 15.08m (+1.6). Zac Topping won the sprint double with 11.40s (-4.1) in the 100m and 22.54s (-2.9) in the 200m. Zoe Hobbs won the same double with 12.75s (-2.5) and 25.92s (-3.5). Shannon Geary won the 400m in 58.68s.
\nKieron McDonald won the 800m in 1m 55.19s, the 1500m went to Antoine Bonnet in 3m 57.77s and the 5000m to Matt Baxter in 15m 11.57s. Alison Andrews-Paul won the women\u2019s 800m in 2m 14.50s and Zia Macdermid the 1500m in 4m 55.09s. Stephanie Dickins won the 300m hurdles in 47.47s.
\nIn the field Anna Thomson was out to 11.34m (+2.7) in the triple jump, James Hutchins 6.60m (+4.1) long jump, Kate Plimmer 5.54m (+1.3) long jump and also 16.33s (-3.7) in the 100m H, Kyle Van der Merve 5kg shot 18.33m and 1.5kg discus 52.90m, Keeley O\u2019Hagan 1.75m HJ and Ben Giles 1.90m HJ.<\/p>\n

Sarah Cowley Ambassador for the NZ Secondary Schools Track & Field Championships
\nOlympic heptathlete Sarah Cowley will return to the Caledonian Stadium in Dunedin, scene of her final national secondary schools championships in December 2001, as Ambassador for this year\u2019s championships next month. The London Olympian is number two all time on the New Zealand rankings in the heptathlon with 6135 points and second all time in the high jump with 1.91m.<\/p>\n

Manawatu Sports Awards
\nAt the Manawatu Sports Awards held in Palmerston North on the 9th November, athletics was well represented and had a number of finalists.
\nStephanie Dickens won the Junior Sportsperson of the year award, while Ashley Exeter won the Disabled athlete of the year award.
\nPaul Macdermid won the Coach of the year award after guiding daughter Kara to numerous track and cross country titles in the past year.
\nOther finalists were Ben Langton-Burnell and Andy Kruy for Junior Sportsman. Vanessa Story for Masters Sportsperson and Alan Adamson for sports administrator.
\nThe previous week Kara Macdermid was named Manawatu Secondary Schools sportswomen of the year and Joshua Baan the Manawatu Secondary School Sportsman of the year.<\/p>\n
