The SA 10km Championships will take place this Sunday, 22 May, at Germiston Stadium and once again, there will be some exciting names to look out for. The event will start at 07:00 at the stadium entrance and will finish at the stadium again.

The SA record times are currently 28:00 for the men and 21:13 for the women. In order to achieve a top 50 world performance, you will have to finish in 26:44 if you are a man and in 30:45 as a woman.
Some favourites to fight for victory this year include names such as Boy Soke, Elroy Galant, Kgosi Tsosane, Bendict Moeng, and Tshamano Setone. Running sensation, Steven Mokoka will be a force to be reckoned with should he decide to participate in the Championships this year.
Amongst the ladies are runners like Irvette van Blerk who recently finished 2nd in her age group and 9th in her gender category in the New York half marathon earlier this year. The Phulula twins from Central Gauteng will be participating along with Mapaseka Makhanya. René Kalmer has not yet been confirmed for the race as she recently ran a marathon.
The 10km course around the stadium is flat but with a surprise around the halfway mark, where after a gradual decent from 3.5-5km. The athletes will face a deceptive climb between the 6-7km mark and then again between 7.5-8km. The decisive moves could well come at this point in the race."
