Canadian Marathon Championship Sunday in Ottawa
OTTAWA - The 2011 Canadian Marathon Championship is set for Sunday May 29 as part of Race Weekend in the nationââ¬â¢s capital. Not only will this event crown Canadaââ¬â¢s top male and female marathoner, but these championships also serve as the last opportunity for Canadian athletes looking to qualify for the 2011 World Championships and 2011 Pan American Games in the marathon discipline. Elite athletes can also register performances towards qualifying for the 2012 Olympic Games.
Prizing
First, Second and Third finishers in the menââ¬â¢s and womenââ¬â¢s Canadian Championship will receive $5000, $2500, and $1000 respectively. The award presentation is scheduled for noon outside of city hall.
Route
Run Ottawa has changed its marathon route for the first time in 3 years. The new course now directs runners west instead of south providing more opportunities for fans to cheer racers on while also offering a more scenic route. For the map visit: athletics.ca/Ottawa2011/main.asp?id=573.
