Can i mix running and football? - Stevie - 07-06-2010 Hi Ed, Not sure what you mean by that, Do i do a long run every Sunday or just day 1 of the cycle? and instead of the 60-70mins, what should i do?...also, will i still do the other "speed sessions" and if so, at what pace? Sorry if its obviously the same pace,:duh: but i thought that to gain the stamina i will require, i'd be doing more long runs and less speed work?:mmm: To give u a guide on my Sun run, i can manage 13 miles "comfortably" but have done 15 in the past which i felt was nearing my limit-that was a time on feet of 2hrs approx. Waiting with anticipation...:jester: Can i mix running and football? - TheEd - 07-06-2010 Select a 10km schedule and then for the long run, the first weekend of the cycle, a 2hr run is sufficient or 13 miles the 2nd weekend a 15 to 18km run is sufficient you should not be getting 'banged up' on these easy runs, so do watch that your bio-mechanics don't take a knock Hope that helps TheEd Can i mix running and football? - Stevie - 14-06-2010 Hi Ed, I've finished my last race in the 10k series and got 41.45 round the wet and quite hilly course.Im really glad i achieved my goal to go sub 40 before running on Sunday because i know that i couldn't have managed it round there. Im not sure what you mean by "banged up" or bio-mechanics? Now back to work and my 1hr 30 half marathon target. Theres a race coming up on the 6th Sept and one before it on the 1st Aug, only problem i have is that im on holiday/vacation at the start of July (1 week) so what i was thinking was to run the first one as a sort of time trial to see where i am pace wise, then rest a few days after with easy runs of 30 mins then go onto the training programme in preperation for the second one, counting back to hit it on race day, what you think? Can i mix running and football? - TheEd - 15-06-2010 Hi Steve, consider looking at the Off Training Period followed by the Build Up Period that should be helpful during this time congrats on achieving your goals TheEd Can i mix running and football? - Stevie - 16-06-2010 Hi Ed, Had a look at the periods you referred to and i also checked the dates of the runs and my holiday, i've calculated that i can fit the 10k training schedule in before both races, so thats what i intend to do, mean while i'll do some of the off training to give myself a good fresh start to the workload ahead, thx again, speak soon.
Can i mix running and football? - TheEd - 16-06-2010 good stuff and enjoy TheEd Can i mix running and football? - Stevie - 12-09-2010 Hi Ed, Just an update on my "lack of progress". I've not been running due to a suspected trapped nerve in my neck/shoulder area.I was advised not to run by the doctor and given anti inflammatory and pain killing pills, also a muscle relaxant, all of which i took for 4 weeks with no joy. I then self referred to a chiropractor who manipulated my back, shoulders and neck, gave massages and also tried a diagnostic numbing injection, again with no joy. So im now going back to doctors this week to try and find the problem. I've been doing the odd "long run" (11 miles) on a Sunday and very little in between, with no speed work or high exertion sessions, but i feel that the "rest" hasn't helped my problem so im going to put this to the doctor and see if i can start running hard again, i'll keep you up to date, thanx Can i mix running and football? - TheEd - 13-09-2010 how lousy Stevie have you also tried changing your sleeping position .. just a helper hope things all work out TheEd ps.. have you considered acupuncture? Can i mix running and football? - Stevie - 19-09-2010 Hi Ed, Yes, tried acupuncture too, no joy from it. The doctor sent me for an x-ray to establish whether its "wear and tear" of the bones or a trapped nerve, so we know what we are dealing with.Either way he said theres not much they can do with either- so i ran my first half marathon today with no preperation just to see if i could complete it and in what time. I didnt run it "seriously" and ran for a mile and a half talking to a friend at a low tempo.I then upped my pace and caught up with another guy around the 6miles mark, whom i conversated with till around 10 miles before pushing on a little at the end and completing it comfortably in around 1hr 44mins. To summarise, forget the injury, TIME TU RUN! :great: Can i mix running and football? - TheEd - 20-09-2010 so it was OK? Cheers TheEd |
