10k race in 6 weeks, trying to set goal - TheEd - 23-07-2014 Currently busy finalising an article on Racing a 10k won't be out in time before Sunday however, it mentions that your 1st km is at your 6 x 1k pace .. no need to go quicker than that then you settle into a rhythm of running your overall pace per km 1km at a time, focusing only on hitting the split for that 1km, never try to make up for a slow km from 2km to 7km the idea is to stay relaxed at speed, from 7km, you have to bring your arms into it and to work at hitting the target times per km . the overall pace then the last 1km should more or less be the same as the first km hope this will work for you TheEd ps.. enjoy the challenge 10k race in 6 weeks, trying to set goal - EBFM - 23-07-2014 TheEd - fantastic, thank you. Cheers, EBFM 10k race in 6 weeks, trying to set goal - EBFM - 28-07-2014 Today was a bit of a disappointing effort, ended up with 38:13 by my watch for the 6 miles, or 3:57/k. Not really sure what to say, as last year I ran 37:08 and by my times from the 2k and 1k sessions my fitness is better this year. It was a bit hotter and more humid than usual, and I finished around some of the same people I have in years past, so it's a bit tough to assess. But overall the field seemed about as fast as last year so no real excuses. Fast first k was out the window with a ton of traffic, and after that I never really got going and struggled in the later stages before the downhill finish. Splits below. 3:57 3:59 3:50 3:52 3:57 3:56 4:11 4:12 4:01 2:20(0.68k) 10k race in 6 weeks, trying to set goal - TheEd - 28-07-2014 you need to find another race as soon as you can there is not much wrong with your race and sometimes things can 'inexplicably' simply not work any thoughts on a race in the next 2 weeks or even next week consider a Park Run TheEd 10k race in 6 weeks, trying to set goal - EBFM - 28-07-2014 Yeah, it kinda feels that way. The next one I have my eye on is a 5k/10k Aug. 24. There aren't any obvious races before then, though I'll look around. If I don't find one for the interim, I have 4 weeks including this one between races. What's the best approach to that? Cheers EBFM |
