10k race in 6 weeks, trying to set goal - TheEd - 31-07-2013 same run down as last week then you can consider going through the off period time-to-run.com/training/10k/offtime.htm followed by the Build Up time-to-run.com/training/10k/buildup.htm The Training Programs are designed to be progressive and have many different elements associated to them enjoy TheEd 10k race in 6 weeks, trying to set goal - EBFM - 31-07-2013 Ok, I'll run down to the weekend 5k and then take it from there. I'm motivated right now and feel like I'm improving quickly, and the weekly mileage on the program is pretty low. But I'll take your advice on when it's necessary to pull back. 10x400 today (83,81,80,81,82,81,82,80,81,80). Planning on: Thurs - 10k easy Fri - 30min easy + 6x1k fast/1k slow Sat - Rest Sun - Hard 5k 10k race in 6 weeks, trying to set goal - EBFM - 03-08-2013 After 10x400 Wednesday and 10k easy Thursday I wasn't able to get in today's 30min+6x1min fast/slow (just other stuff came up, not a fitness/health issue). Any advice on best practice for Saturday before going for a 5k time Sunday? 10k race in 6 weeks, trying to set goal - TheEd - 04-08-2013 Rest Day the day before a race enjoy TheEd 10k race in 6 weeks, trying to set goal - EBFM - 05-08-2013 Hi TheEd, 5k today and I gave it what I had, came up with 18:51 (3:41,3:50,3:44,3:55,3:41). I maybe should have been able to do a bit better based on my 6-mile time, but this was running solo on the road - probably not quite as much of that extra raceday juice. Next race on my radar is a 10k towards the end of November. Maybe a low-key 5k or two in there somewhere. I guess I'll head into an off period and a build up before carrying on with the program, if that's your advice. Cheers 10k race in 6 weeks, trying to set goal - TheEd - 05-08-2013 unless you able to find a race in the next week or two then an off period leading into the Build Up is often a good thing to do over to you TheEd 10k race in 6 weeks, trying to set goal - EBFM - 06-08-2013 I guess here is my real question: My goal ultimately is to keep getting faster, month to month and year to year. Of course I'll want to peak for certain races, but I'm thinking more broadly. So, in order to do that, is the basic idea: Cycle, cycle, cycle, off, build-up, repeat? Thanks, EBFM 10k race in 6 weeks, trying to set goal - TheEd - 06-08-2013 what I would consider is to go through a few cycles and achieve faster times over 5km so that a faster 10km is more achievable then consider the come down and build up if this is not achievable then we can look to go straight to an off period and onto the build up TheEd 10k race in 6 weeks, trying to set goal - EBFM - 06-08-2013 That sounds great. So 2k's Thursday? There's a local 5k I can do Aug. 25, so should line up nicely with a full cycle. Cheers 10k race in 6 weeks, trying to set goal - TheEd - 06-08-2013 that would be good .. stick to the same 2k pace and the after that we can look at the 6 x 1k session next week cheers TheEd |
