Sub 40 within reach? - NordicRunner - 09-05-2013 Been quick-reading through the first 50 or something posts and the newest ones from Jamies thread. Don`t know if I `m able to catch exactly what to pick up from his story quite yet, but will look at it again with fresh eyes later. Seems to be more of a semi professional athlete this guy than where I am, but suppose there are lessons to be learned also across levels of ambitions. Point taken about relaxing a bit, not taking things too seriously at the moment :jester: I suppose I can do the scheduled races without worrying to much about they suits into the cycle next couple of weeks. Will be getting back into things nice and slowly now. Had a 25 min on treadmill yesterday after resting Tuesday. Entire system felt ok. Will be going for a new medium tough session today, either short intervalls or 50-60 min easy. Tomorrow maybe some easy fartlek to prepare the relay saturday. OR just rest. If you read this in due time, I would of course be intersted in thoughts on this "plan" ![]() Have a splendid Thursday! NR Sub 40 within reach? - TheEd - 09-05-2013 Hi NR, the main lesson to be learned was that things go wrong after hard events and then you must give yourself a chance to recover .. with JH, he was still learning to give his body a chance to recover but continued to get results so your natural ability is there, you just need to give it a chance and further results will come as you progress, maybe not immediately but with time keep asking questions for today's run, concentrate on aerobic .. run as close to 140 bpm as possible for 1hr .. focus on good form and come out of it feeling relaxed TheEd ps.. and enjoy Sub 40 within reach? - NordicRunner - 09-05-2013 That`s what I`ll do then. Light rain and 12 degrees C outside. Public holiday, so no work. Great day for catching some air :great: Sub 40 within reach? - NordicRunner - 13-05-2013 Ran the relay Saturday with no complications. Was quite enjoyable and I do think the times I achieved confirm that my shape is still good. Ended up running three different stages for three different teams (all of them in the "company sports" category. Maybe you have heard of this relay elsewhere? It`s called Holmenkollstafetten and is actually (so, I`ve read, at least) the worlds biggest relay run of its kind, with more than 40.000 participators. Taking place in Oslo, capital of Norway. I started with a relatively flat 600 meter, time 1:47. This was a comparatively good result (25th out of 1241). Then had 20 minutes rest before I ran a moderately hilly (mostly upwards) 1800 meter at 6:48. This was also a good result, but comparatively not that high up on the list (108). Then had 1h20 min before running a relatively flat 1060 meter, time 3:33. Again this was a decent result. Gave me the 2nd best out of 569 teams in a class with majority female runners (would have given 51st place in the "majority of male" class). Don`t know what you may make of these times, just wanted to post them for the record. `Yesterday I had a restday, really needed it, as my calf muscles were quite sore after the relay runs. Still a bit sore today, so planning to do an easy run on the treadmill. Then maybe start another cycle tomorrow. Have the 10 k scheduled for saturday 25th. Thats only two weeks from now, so wondering wheter to jump into the cycle week 2 or start with week 1 then just do the race on day scheduled for 5k test run. (I may want participate on a 5 k race tuesday 21st as well). Any thoughts on the next weeks, given these dates? I`m fine with just going along not to effort minded for the moment. As I feel the first 10 k race (which is now in the past was the most important for me this spring). best regards. NR Sub 40 within reach? - NordicRunner - 13-05-2013 Dont know if "sore" is the right word describing my legs... maybe "stiff" instead. (Norwegian word is "støl", but I can`t find a good translation, as "støl" also means "farm", and this is what both Google translate and Easytrans.org suggest). Anyway, wouldn`t say it is anything that worries me. Still I note that it is more "noticeable" than after the intervall sessions I did in the first cycle. Probably related to the fact that I ran three stages, spread out on more than two hours. Sub 40 within reach? - NordicRunner - 13-05-2013 Just wanted to clarify the dates for races that are more or less scheduled May 21st - 5 k trail May 25th - 10 k street race June 8th - 21 k trail... (never ran 21 k before) I think I want to go for them all, if legs feel fine. But I totally agree with the thought about not putting to much pressure into it. Sub 40 within reach? - TheEd - 13-05-2013 thanks for the feedback .. the 1:47 600m shows you able to run below 3.20 per k .. and that would be your soccer legs the 1800m is also promising for what is to come with your running 'sore' is the correct word .. you must be cautious now, as 'tight calf' muscles can read very easily to shin and other complications so focus on recovery and then we can start planning forward all the upcoming events should be 'doable' if you rest now TheEd Sub 40 within reach? - NordicRunner - 13-05-2013 Allright! Yes, suppose both the soccer legs (as you correctly assume) and my fathers "short distance" genes (he ran actively in his youth, most 100-400 meters, I think) contribute to this ![]() I ran 60 meter 7.36 in my teens if I remember right. No doubt I have a "shorter distance" nature. So.. Maybe not the marathon is for me. That will be saved for later, anyway. As for the rest / recovery, I suppose some easy shorter runs are acceptable. If not, you better tell me
Sub 40 within reach? - TheEd - 13-05-2013 recovery important .. swim or cycle, something which is not weight bearing to give you some decent recovery good luck TheEd Sub 40 within reach? - NordicRunner - 15-05-2013 Went for some cycling yesterday, that was nice. I`ve just bought a new bike (hybrid) and aim to put in a weakly bike session, keeping the HR relatively low, just enjoying the trip and the nature. Legs feel much better than monday, so think I should be ready to do some decent running again soon. Today I plan to go for an easy treadmill run, and then tomorrow step it up with a quality session. That could be either the 5x2k, or something else. Friday is day off anyway, because of the National Day in Norway ![]() Don`t know if I should step into the cycle right now or just balance things a bit less strict, given the race dates mentioned above. |
