Sub 35 here we come - marco - 01-05-2013

Hi theEd,

Well I've spent the last few days easy running, and am going to try the 5x2k intervals tomorrow and just see how it goes. I would hope I can manage slightly faster than 3:45 for them but will see, will try not to start off too fast and build from there on if I can if that sounds ok to you?

and how did it go Wink

Hi TheEd,

It went pretty well, interval's as follows:

7:24.7 recovery HR 130
7:18.4 recovery HR 138
7:22.3 recovery HR 138
7:23.4 recovery HR 134
7:14.8

Wasn't sure how it'd go as I've been feeling a bit tired since the 10km race but once I got warmed up felt pretty good and eased into it with the first effort and tried to push it after that. I was feeling fully recovered between intervals compared to previous times I've tried this. So quite happy with the session, still find it easier than the 1km intervals though Smile

Hi TheEd,

The rest of the training is going reasonably well. After the intervals I did a 26km run easy run on Saturday which went well. I'm slowly building up the long run to 30km as you originally said to me when I started the plan. Once I hit the second half of June I'll need to start into marathon style training so it will benefit me then.

The easy/recovery runs usually go fine although tend to be tired during some of them but feel thats to be expected. Again it normally depends on whats happening outside the training plan with work etc and if I got a good nights sleep or not.

Hi TheEd,

How are things? Well I still disagree with you that the 1km interval session is easier than the 2k one! Smile However while I find them tough was still able to knock ok times I think at least! This evening I did them on a flat stretch of road out and back.

1. 03:32.4 Max HR 174 Recovery HR 144 w/headwind
2. 03:33.7 Max HR 177 Recovery HR 143 w/headwind
3. 03:30.2 Max HR 177 Recovery HR 147 w/tailwind
4. 03:32.0 Max HR 177 Recovery HR 157 w/tailwind
5. 03:32.9 Max HR 181 Recovery HR 154 w/headwind
6. 03:28.9 Max HR 181

Anyway one of the reasons I find this session tougher is due to less recovery and also its later in the plan and I'm not as rested as I am when doing the 2km intervals but I'm making progress with it so I dont mind Smile

well marco, at least you can say you 'unique' Wink

do note in order for sub 35 to be truly considered one would need to be able to run at least 17 minutes for 5k, so the 1k session is considered a necessary development of the 5k speed

onwards and forwards

Hi TheEd,

You wouldn't be the first person to call me that! Smile

I'm not disagreeing with the session I think the 1k session a great session and find its bringing my 5k pace on alot.

In fact the whole plan is working well so far, I'm wondering when its all going to grind to a halt and plateau but hopefully thats not for a long time!
