10k race in 6 weeks, trying to set goal - EBFM - 07-05-2014

I'm feeling pretty good, ready to get started.

Scheduling can be a little tricky with work and the little one, but I'll stick as close to the plan as possible. One thing for sure is long runs will be Sunday. So, should I shoot for the 2k's on Friday?

Hi TheEd,

Started the day with an easy 10k pushing the stroller, about 5:45/k.
That may not be ideal for the plan but will be a regular occurrence as it's the only time I can get out running with my wife.

This afternoon went out for the 5x2k on the road as the track was in use. Goal was 4:00/k. Splits were 8:04,7:59,8:04,8:01,8:10. Pace was tough to judge on the streets, but that last one hurt.

Overall pretty pleased as it was the hardest workout I've done in many months and I pushed to the end. Onward.

Hi TheEd,

Long run on Sat was 87min at ~5:30/k. 6x1k today, aiming for 3:50/k based on the 2k session. First k I had to back off and jog the last lap. Last one I ignored the watch and gave a good push. Splits were:
3:46
3:49
3:50
3:49
3:48
3:35

On to the paced 5k this weekend, aiming sub-20.

Cheers,
EBFM

Hi TheEd,

Had a frustrating 5k paced run on Sat. Was aiming for 4:00/k and thought I was putting out the effort to do so, but each k I was surprised at how slow the time ended up being. Pretty stiff headwind the first half, but still a little disappointed. Splits were:
4:09
4:13
4:04
4:05
3:53
20:24 total

This morning the 400s felt relaxed, target initially was 86s. Splits were
84,84,84,85,85,84,84,84,83,84

No race scheduled this weekend, in fact will be doing some traveling so probably just some easy runs leading into the next cycle.

Cheers,
EBFM

your last 1km was quicker Wink

no chance of popping a 4k time-trial in?

Hahah, yeah - by the last km I was sick of 4:00+ splits!

Maybe on the 4k, but not sure. I'm doing a 10k just as a fun run on Monday. I'll be at altitude too, 5800 ft. I live at sea level, so we'll see how that goes...

Back from holiday now, just easy running over the weekend.

Have come down with a pretty nasty sore throat, but don't want to lose ground if I can avoid it. 2k's scheduled for tomorrow - what's the best path forward?

Cheers,
