For some reason, I`m unable to link to the article I wrote about. But the guy is called Paul Ingraham, and the site is called "Sace yourself". Different tutorials, among which one about ITB syndome...

An article is called: Confused about the location of Iliotibial Band Syndrome?

Anyway, this guy made me uncertain whether I have ITBS or not:confused:

"Save yourself", not "Sace yourself" Smile

Hi Nordic Runner, your problems are related to 'over use'

read our article to assist you to understand ITB better

http://www.time-to-run.com/injuries/thebig5/itb.htm

do note, that during this period you will get a whole bunch of conflicting pains and problems due to 'over use' related complications

often once one problem seems to be solved another shall flare up

unfortunately time off is often the best cure once you are able to start correcting the problems

however this does not mean everything will be straight forward

patience is now required

Yep, I`ve read it, thank you for good information. Trying to do some of the stretches.

It`s funny you mention the multiple pains phenomenon, as I`ve lately also felt some pain underneath the right heel. It may be some version of plantar fasciitis, but not quite sure. This was not something that bothered me during the last Race, but something which has been coming and going a bit afterwards, being more present the last couple of days. I suspect it might be connected to a new pair of leisure shoes from Nike (Nike Free) that I bought recently, which I suspect is not doing a very good job supporting my feet. This is actually a running shoe kind of leisure shoe, but one which is supposed to give a "barefoot like feel". I suspect I should stop wearing them and find me something a bit more "supportive".

Being injured really sucks, but I`ll try to be patient.

nordic runner .. as long as you learn from it, if not, then nothing has been gained

you have to let everything go for now (plans that is)

easy does it

Yes, I know. I will be takling things Nice and slow, but also want to stay as fit as possible through cycling and possibly water running. It's important for me not to loose the spirit entirely as I know it will then be more diffucult to come back. Ill be doing strenght training as well. Core and stretching ++
At the moment actually the heel thing is bothering me most. Will probably visit an orthopedist shortly.
Keeping some long term goals in my head, but ready to adjust them to recovery processSmile

Hi,

I just wantes to say that I`ve managed to put the injury problems behind me for a while, and have had a decent autumn of running so far.

I took an off period containing only quite easy, quite short runs during holidays in late July, early August, and have since then gradually stepped it up again. The leg problem has gradually disappeared, and hopefully will stay away for some time!

21st of September I raced 21 k at 1.31.53.
Pretty pleased with that! Big Grin

And for the moment I have recently started on another sub 40 cycle, which will end with a 10k race taking place October 19th.

I feel a bit less fit than I was in April, when I ran 39.02, and have possibly put on some weight. But I think it`s possible to do a good race. The goal is to reproduce a sub 40 time, which I think will be a great end of the season. Everything above (or litteraly spoken, below) will be pure bonus. Wink

So, here are my splits from the 5x2k last Thursday:
7:45
7:58
7:51
7:54
7:59
As you can see, not a perfect session according to the schedule, but not that far away either. Legs are feeling a bit heavy, but I`m on my way, I think.
Will report on the 6x1ks tomorrow!

Great to be back on track:jester:

I must admit, I have been checking on you and was wondering how things were going

welcome back and I hope you have learned from the experience Wink

what are your long-term and short-term plans other than the October 10k

happy returns

The long term goals:
After the next 10 k, I`m not quite sure where to take it. Just want to keep going and stay injury free.
As soon as the skiing season arrives (most often January, but sometimes also in December), I`m planning to do a lot of cross country skiing. Like two, three times a week (which is more than I`ve done the last years). Hopefully I`ll be able to continue running as well, but the mix will be more like 50/50 or 66/33 skiing/running. We`ll see...

I`m going to do a couple of 40-50 km cross country races during January to March. With the most "important" one taking place in March.

After that I`ll prepare for another 10 k during late April (maybe aiming a bit further down on the thirties... Smile

As for next years running after that, I`ll have to decide if I want to try the marathon distance or if I`ll just stay with 10 and 21 one more season. Might also be fun to do some shorter races, who knows. I think that actually may be more according to my physical talent, but I prefer competitions that lasts longer than 10-15 minutes Smile

As for todays session, here are my splits:
3:48
3:40
3:47
3:41
3:51
3:52
I was a bit unsatisfied with the legs being more heavy than I hoped for. In two of the laps I actually felt two different other runners "chased" me (which made for two laps being run a bit quicker than planned for).

I still feel a tiny bit behind the sub 40 schedule, but we`ll just see. I`ve not been that good with eating and staying off the bear this autumn Wink
