Soweto Marathon Entries Open - Newsroom - 18-08-2011

Entries for the 19th Soweto Marathon are officially open and 17 000 runners are expected to compete this year. This year’s Marathon will take place on Sunday 6 November, with even more to look forward to.

Whether you are a professional athlete or someone who just enjoys the outdoors, the Soweto Marathon will have something for you. The experienced runner can test their fitness and endurance levels with the 42.2km race.

It will also be the first year where the 10km run and 10km walk will be combined. The professional walkers however will be separated from the main group. The idea for this is to give the professional walkers the opportunity to compete at the Soweto Marathon under the correct rules and regulations.

The Soweto Marathon also caters for the disabled athletes in the form of a 10km wheelchair race and for those enthusiasts just looking to get out and experience Soweto; the 5km fun run will offer exactly this.

For the first time this year entries will be taken at the Soweto Festival in Nasrec from the 23 – 25 September. Visitors at the exhibition should look out for the Athletics South Africa exhibition stand to get more information about the history of the Soweto Marathon.

Entry forms are available and can be completed at The Sweatshop Dunkheld, The Sweatshop Irene, Beford Runner in Bedfordview, Run-a-way sport Lynwood, Randburg Runner, Running Inn, Sportsmans Warehouse the Glen and Orlando Community Hall. Online entries available at enteronline.co.za

Entries may also be hand delivered at Central Gauteng Athletics situated at Germiston Stadium and Athletics South Africa’s offices in Houghton.

All entries must be accompanied by proof of payment or will be rejected.

Entry fees are as follows:

42.2km R110.00
10km Run/Walk R70.00
10km Professional walk R70.00
10km Wheelchair R70.00
5km Fun Run R10.00

Athletes aged 60 years and older enter for free.

To be a part of this amazing opportunity you need to ensure that you complete that entry form immediately. With 18 past years to gain experience and improve on past experiences, this year will surely be something to look forward to.

Everybody entering the Soweto Marathon before the closing date will receive a T-shirt and goodie bag at the following number collection venues. This includes Pilditch Stadium in Tshwane, ASA offices in Houghton Estate and at the MTN Expo Centre situated in Nasrec. All events race numbers will be obtained at the abovementioned venues and not at sport shops. Entries close on 21 October 2011.
