Gun Run 2012 this Sunday 9 October - TheEd - 04-10-2011

Those wanting to be a part of the OUTsurance 94.5 Kfm Gun Run this Sunday 9 October can still enter the 5km run/walk. Entries for the 5km event only will be taken at the various registration points at Sportsmans Warehouse in Rondebosch, Tygervalley, Canal Walk and Somerset Mall on Friday 07 and Saturday 08 October. Participants can also enter the 5km on the morning of the event in Fritz Sonnenberg Road, outside the stadium.

Entries for the half marathon and 10km run/walk have closed and race organisers are expecting a record field of over 10 000 participants. Some of the provinces top runners have entered and local athlete Michael Bailey from Tokai has his sights on a win in the 10km. “Hopefully I'll feel good on the day and run a sub 30 minute but it depends on the conditions on race day,” Bailey added.

Ex Capetonian runner, Nolene Conrad has confirmed her entry in the 21km and has achieved some great results in 2011. Conrad is one of the best 10km runners in the country, as well as a good track runner and former SA record holder in the 3 000 m steeplechase.

All three distances start in Fritz Sonnenberg Road, outside the Cape Town Stadium, and finish in the new Green Point Park.

Participants in the 21km half marathon and 10km run/walk are reminded to collect their race numbers and event T-shirt, if they ordered one, from the registration point they indicated when they entered, and to visit the website thegunrun.co.za, which will provide them with details on parking, the route and general race information to ensure they have a great race.

The half marathon starts at 07h00, the 10km at 07h30 and the 5km at 08h30 and the Cape Field Artillery will fire the cannon to start each race and then again at 10h00 to mark the cut-off. There are some great lucky draw prizes up for grabs, including a cheque for R10 000 and a flat screen TV, plus entertainment for the kids.
