half marathon training - robind - 21-04-2009

Hi The Ed

I'm hoping you might be able to give me some training advice? I've been running for about 1 yr 6 mths and my training is a little mixed as I run 2/3 times a week but also do British Military fitness which is like circuit training in the park. I completed a half marathon last year in 2hrs 7 mins, then one at the end of March 09 in 2hrs 2 mins. My next one is on the 16th May and I'm not sure what to do between then and now to try and get a 1hr 55 mins time if thats possible. All of the schedules I've seen require much more training, in the time I've got what would you suggest I focus on?

Many thanks

Robind

Hi robind and welcome to the forums

you haven't left yourself with much time to do things however we would recommend you consider doing the

sub 50 minute 10k training program

and then continue with your normal distance training on the weekend

so slotting in the 3 x 2000m session attempting sub 10 minutes for the 2k is a good start

what are your thoughts on this?

Hi

I know its a little late, but I sometimes to struggle to fit everything in! This looks good - I've never really done any pace development work before so I'll be interested to see if I can do it. RunSam recommended you as his running has developed alot.

Cheers

Robind (Dan)

excellent

provide feedback and no matter what complete the 3 x 2000m even if you become slower, you need to establish a marker for yourself and us

Hi

Well I gave it a go this morning and did:
1st 2K - 9 mins 8 sec and heart rate after 2 mins rest 111
2nd 2K - 9 mins 28 sec and HR 119
3rd 2K - 9 mins 36 sec and HR 131

Found it tough but pleased with the times.
