Why weight/strength training and what are the benefits?

please note .. I believe very much in strength training with body weight to start with .. the simple push-ups, chin ups etc

Hi TheEd,

Cheers for that I will read through those.

Any programme I begin will start very light, maybe only using the barbell with no weight until I get the technique nailed.

At the moment I think starting with body weight exercises, and doing a couple of cycles to get used to doing 60mins runs is a good idea before I add in a weight training routine as well.

So maybe I'll look to start something in the new year.

My heart rate was well up today during the run (hence the slower pace and reduced distance), I think for 2 reasons, that I went off too quickly to begin with and that I had 4 layers on and my body temp was a lot higher than normal.

I feel fine, so don't think its a sign of anything else as my resting HR before I went out was fine, but i'll up my water intake today just in case.

Yeah, enjoying the running and looking forward to putting in some consecutive days of 60min running during the build up weeks.

Also strangely looking forward to the 5x2K! Going to be using a tartan track for the first time, which should be good.
