NACAC Cross Country Championships on Saturday - TheEd - 17-02-2011
OTTAWA ââ¬â Athletics Canadaââ¬â¢s entries for the 2011 NACAC Cross Country Championships have arrived in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad. The NACAC Championships will take place Saturday at Queenââ¬â¢s Park Savannah over a relatively flat two-loop grass course. Four Canadian teams will line up in Saturdayââ¬â¢s races.
Time Event Distance
3:00pm Junior Women 4km
3:30pm Junior Men 6km
4:00pm Senior Women 6km
4:35pm Senior Women 8km
The NACAC Cross Country Championships are serving as the selection trials for the 2011 International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) World Cross Country Championships which take place Sunday March 20th. To be considered for selection to Worlds, teams must finish in the top two positions at the NACAC Championships, as well as show that they are capable of finishing among the top half of the field at Worlds.
Dave Scott-Thomas, Head Coach of the NACAC team said at the time of the announcement, ââ¬ÅI've been on a lot of national teams and I am always impressed by the energy condensed when a young athlete puts on the Canadian uniform. These squads are talented, they're focused and they'll race together as true teams.ââ¬Â He adds; ââ¬ÅFull credit to the athletes and their personal coaches for working through the cool twilight of a Canadian winter and blasting into the Caribbean sun.ââ¬Â
