Celtic Harriers and Top Events, organisers of the Cape Peninsula Marathon that takes place this coming Sunday 16th February, would like to alert all participants and supporters to the extreme heat conditions that are forecast for the day of the event.
Although the warnings are mainly for inland locations, the following preventative measures have been initiated :
An additional 25 000 water sachets have been ordered
Additional ice will be supplied to the refreshment stations
The medical team will be adequately resourced for heat related problems
Runners are requested to be aware of the symptoms of heat exhaustion which can include headache, dizziness, muscle weakness or muscle cramps, and nausea or vomiting. You may have a fast, weak pulse, and your breathing may be fast. Should you experience any of these conditions please seek medical assistance.
