same run tomorrow however you welcome to let the pulse raise to 150 bpm towards the end

we looking for zone 3 running, so see after tomorrow's run if you reach that status

till laters TheEd

ps.. we will look into the email notifications

Thanks, Ed. I will look to do a similar run on Wed. I looked again at the zone issue - the wrist strap said on my last run that I was in the fifth zone (extreme) the whole time. But the record of the run on my phone (which takes data from the wrist strap) said: 27 mins in zone two (fat burning) and 8 mins in zone three (aerobic). So maybe I can pick up the pace a bit and try to increase the amount in zone three.

RE: Giving it a Go - PaulJ - 12-11-2025

Ok. I did go for my Wednesday run. I had been looking forward to it, but did not sleep well last night and did not feel great prior to the run. I didn't have the patience to do a proper warm-up and just got going. I tried to run faster than last week since one of my device seemed to be suggesting that I only made it into zone three for a small portion of my run, which surprised and disappointed me. I did manage to run the first two kms faster than last week, but I knew it would struggle to keep it up so I came in a bit early, running 5.19 km rather than 6.26. However, my average pace did increase to 5.34 (from 5.44 for last week's slightly longer run). I think this is probably my best 5k time for about four years.

My splits were: 5.33; 5.31; 5.38; 5.27; 5.41; and 5.22 for the last 0.19.

Zones and heart rate is all a bit confusing. Probably the most trustworthy indicator is my Oura ring that has my heart rate between 145 and 170 during the run with an average heart rate of 166. My resting heart is around 50.

Hi Paul .. OK .. don't hassle too much, we will get to where the running becomes more sensible Smile

so we now have a marker for you and today's running would go more towards your maximum

we can work with the stats provided to take us further

Please let us know how you feel tomorrow and as to whether you slept better and whether you are stiff . sore or other

take care and at least you know you can gallop quicker Smile

Thanks Ed.

slept ok. Although I always hope I will sleep better after a run, it does not usually work out that way - body either still too fired up or muscles too tired! But it was OK. I don't feel too bad today although I can feel the run in my legs. I have yoga at 10.00 which should be nice. But currently no other exercise planned for today or tomorrow and then tennis on Sat although the weather forecast is not great. If there is too much rain for tennis on sat am, I could run on Sat. I had thought I might run on Sunday but I forgot that I had agreed to meet a friend, go for a long walk and have a pub lunch!

I take it from your comment that you might suggest that one day I do a run at something other than maximum effort level - well, it has never happened before, so maybe now is a good time to start :-)

Paul this is all good .. this 'project' is all about you and what works for you and then my job is also to get you to achieve your goals. There is no stress or pressure or expectations, we would like the process to be enjoyable while working towards 'whatever'

If you do look to run Saturday, then let me know, ideally I would like for you to dial back and not run hard and particularly if you hiking on Sunday

so keep me in the loop, if you don't run Saturday it is not the end of the world

Afternoon, Ed.

The forecast rain did not happen, so I cycled to tennis, played for a couple of hours and cycled home. Three hours of physical activity: zone 0: 22 mins; 1.26 zone 1; 1.04 zone 2; 8 mins: zone 3. So at least I got a bit of zone 3 today!

Hiking tomorrow, dancing on Monday and then another run on Wednesday. I will definitely take it slowly on Wed and look to spend as much time as I can in zone 3 - be interesting to see what speed I have to run at to achieve that.

Was not feeling great last week and was not able to run on Wednesday which was a real shame since I was very much looking forward to it. Still got a bit of a cold this week (or a new one) so not sure I will make it tomorrow, I really hope so. (As background it has suddenly got a bit colder in the UK - we were enjoying very warm weather for Nov but then the temperature fell to around 5 degrees celsius - perhaps warm for Nordic countries but less so for us).

RE: Giving it a Go - TheEd - 26-11-2025

Paul .. let me know when you ready to run again .. hopefully that is your cold / flu for the winter season

Thanks, Ed. I have definitely been under the weather - not quite sure what it is really, a sort of endless cold. Don't feel brilliant today but I am going to try to go for a SLOW run this afternoon unless I am not feeling great after lunch. I will let you know how I get on.
