5km in 18:00min or under... - Noctizzz - 03-03-2011

I'm trying to obtain a goal of running 5 km in 18:00 or under. My deadline is sometime in the middle of May. Right now I can run it in 20 minutes. Would I follow the sub 33 min 10k program? How would I go about doing this? I have a lot of time and my flexibility is good, so I can run any amount of days in a row. I also do weight training/body building so how would the leg days affect the running?

Thanks for any help

Hi Noctizzz and welcome to the forums

we would revamp the sub 35 minute 10km schedule to suit your needs

the schedules are designed so that between the Days 3 to 8 the bulk of the work is done, during this period it is most important that you recover between sessions

are you able to do the training on those days (we revamp the schedule to be more 5km orientated)

are you happy with these suggestions

ps.. doing the gym training is fine but be cautious the day before and after the sessions on Day3 and Day 8

Actually I decided to drop the weight training to accomplish my goal. So I'm fine to train on any day for the running.

There some things I don't really understand with the running program. If you could clear things up:

Quote:start with 5x2k R90 6min 50 (3.25 per k)

Not really sure what that means...

thanks again!

first off you will not be doing 5 x 2k but more likely 3 x 2k

to explain this better: start with 5x2k R90 6min 50 (3.25 per k)

with would mean, that you start this session with

5 times 2000m in 3.25 per km for 6 minutes 50 seconds per 2k

you Rest 90 seconds after each 2k and you do a total of 5

ps.. however for you, you will only be doing 3 x 2k
