Unesco Cities Marathon this Sunday

Palmanova - Unesco Cities Marathon

Udine (Italy) – March 24, 2014 – Unesco Cities Marathon is the only marathon in the world connecting two Unesco World Heritage sites: Cividale del Friuli, ancient Lombard capital city, and Aquileia, a centre with important Roman remains, are exactly 42 kilometres away, the distance of the classical marathon.

Unesco Cities Marathon will be run on 30th March 2014, starting from Cividale, going through Palmanova and finishing in Aquileia. Forty-two very fast kilometres through the heart of a region worth discovering.

AN EMOTION TO SHARE

An intense emotion to experience as a pair. Unesco Cities Marathon will be also a relay race with two athletes. The first relay runner will run from Cividale to Palmanova (25.6 km). Then, after the relay in the charming setting of Piazza Grande, the second relay racer will run from Palmanova to Aquileia (16.595 km). The ideal training for those planning to run a marathon (or a half marathon) during the spring.

NOT ONLY A MARATHON WITH IULIA AUGUSTA RUN

From the star-shaped city to the ancient Roman metropolis. Also this year, Unesco Cities Marathon will be accompanied by Iulia Augusta Run, an individual 16.595 km long race which will cover the marathon final stretch. It will start from Piazza Grande, in Palmanova, and finish in Piazza Capitolo, in Aquileia, in front of the famous Basilica. For many enthusiast runners spring will start in Friuli Venezia Giulia, and there is no need to run a whole marathon!

NORDIC WALKING, A 16 KM LONG PASSION

For runners, but also for those walking with poles. This year at Unesco Cities Marathon there is the debut of Iulia Augusta Nordic Walking, a race focused on sport and fun for those who love the “Nordic walking style”. Just as the running competition, also Iulia Augusta Nordic Walking will start in Piazza Grande, in Palmanova, and finish in Piazza Capitolo, in Aquileia. What about the distance? 16.595km the exact distance between the star-shaped city and the ancient Roman metropolis.

RUN FOR LIFE AMONG THE REMAINS OF THE ANCIENT ROMAN CITY

The 2014 edition of Unesco Cities Marathon will really be open to everyone. Run for Life is a race focused on sport and fun, it is organized by Fiasp (Sport for Everybody Italian Federation) and it is combined with the 18th edition of Marcia per la Vita (Walk for Life): it is a race suitable also for less trained people. It starts from Aquileia’s basilica and finishes in the same place, after a race through the most distinctive places of the ancient Roman city.
