Bayabel, Yalew win Egmond Half Marathon

Ethiopians Yekeber Bayabel and Genet Yalew won Sunday’s 44th Saucony Egmond Half Marathon. He had the finishing stretch along Boulevard Noord to himself and completed the race in 1:08:08. High southerly winds made it the slowest race since 1985. On track for a medal for much of the race, Abdi Nageeye developed a side stitch in the last few kilometres and had to concede to Bernard Kipyego and Abera Kuma, who finished second and third. Desisa takes RAK Half title

Astonishing strength in depth of results but only after painfully slow starts, were the underlining features of the 8th RAK Half Marathon, with the victories of Ethiopia’s 2013 Boston Champion Lelisa Desisa in 59:36 and last year’s London Champion Priscah Jeptoo in 67:02, inevitably topping the early world rankings for the year.
