Ottawa – The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) announced yesterday a lifetime ban effective August 2005 for shot putter Andrei Mikhnevich of Belarus.  Mikhnevich’s lifetime ban means that Canadian thrower Dylan Armstrong of Kamloops, B.C., will be awarded the bronze medal from the 2010 IAAF World Indoor Championships.  Armstrong finished fourth at the 2010 World Indoors behind Mikhnevich who was third. Canada names 2013 WYC Team

OTTAWA – Athletics Canada officially named today the team that will travel to Donetsk, Ukraine to compete at the eighth edition of the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) World Youth Championships July 10 through 14. The competition takes place in the main stadium of the Regional Sport Complex Olimpiyskiy, built in 1958 with a long athletics history dating back to 1977 when it held the European Junior Championships. OTTAWA – Athletics Canada announced five additional nominees today to the 2012 Olympic Games team. Daundre Barnaby of Brampton, Ont., Aaron Brown of Toronto, Ont., Tremaine Harris of Markham, Ont., Kerri-Ann Mitchell of Pickering, Ont., and Sheila Reid of Newmarket, Ont., were nominated to the Canadian Olympic Committee for inclusion on the 2012 Olympic Games team.  This brings the total nominees to the Olympic Games team by Athletics Canada to 45, the largest in recent history.    [Read more…]
