Ottawa – And then there were two, the City of Champions will face off against Canada’s Tournament Capital in order to determine the host community for the 2015 Panamerican Junior Athletics Championships.  The two short listed communities will converge on the nation’s capital in late May to make their final bid presentations to Athletics Canada’s selection committee.

Michael Thomas, Manager of Event Attraction at Edmonton Tourism is excited at the opportunity to welcome the Americas.  “With Edmonton focused on recruiting and attracting young talented individuals, the 2015 Panamerican Junior Athletics Championships resonate much deeper than just bringing visitors to our city. It’s about incorporating young athletes into the community and making them feel at home.”  Thomas adds, “Events that can be enjoyed by competitors and spectators alike are integral to the way we live.  The 2015 Panamerican Junior Athletic Championships is not just an event to be held in Edmonton, it is a vital ingredient for Edmonton to reach its goal of becoming a world class mid-sized city.”

Kamloops Mayor Peter Milobar “It is an honour to be considered as a potential host for an event of this calibre. It speaks to the strength and success of the Kamloops Track & Field Club and the quality of our facilities that has allowed us to be on this stage, among the bigger athletics facilities and centres across Canada. As home to Olympic medalist hopeful Dylan Armstrong, Kamloops knows the value of supporting sport and fostering local talent.”

The winning bid will be identified following final presentations in Ottawa on May 24.

The selection committee consists of representatives from Athletics Canada’s provincial branches and national office staff as well as from the Competitions Committee, National Team Committee and athlete representatives.
