GUADALAJARA – Malindi Elmore of Kelowna, B.C., won the bronze medal in the women’s 1500-metres today in 4:27.57 at the Pan American Games. Happy with the medal, the race itself was not to her expectations; “The time was slow and I was blocked from the beginning. No one took the pace and I just had to be patient. The group got the pace at 150 to 200-metres and usually it is about 400 to 600-metres.” Cuba’s Adriana Munoz won the gold medal in 4:26.09 and Columbia’s Rosibel Garcia took silver in 4:26.78.

The men’s 4×400-metre relay team of Philip Osei of Toronto, Ont., Dontae Richards-Kwok of Mississauga, Ont., Tremaine Harris of Markham, Ont., and Michael Robertson of Ottawa, Ont., finished second in their semi final heat clocking 3:08.51 which advances them to tomorrow’s final. “Everybody ran well today; this run was good to get underneath our belt” commented Robertson. The final is scheduled for 6:50pm local time.

Wrapping up the Games tomorrow

As athletics competition at the Pan American Games comes to an end tomorrow, Stevensville, Ont.’s Jason Wurster will take to the men’s pole vault final at 4:30pm local time.

The women’s 4×100-metre relay team will line up in their final at 5:35pm local time; a last minute schedule change today eliminated the semi final rounds and therefore the teams go straight to the final tomorrow.
