Series announces new 10km

Canada Series 10km

Canada Series 10km

Vancouver, BC – The Lower Mainland’s newest run is the Vancouver Eastside 10k.  The event will be a premiere Canadian 10 km road race, bringing some of the best runners from within the province and across the nation to Vancouver this fall to compete. Boasting a unique route and top class event management, the Eastside 10k offers tremendous runner value and will attract participants of all abilities to this exciting new Canada Running Series event.

As such, the Eastside 10k will complement Vancouver’s strong spring running schedule of events. The Canada Running Series organizes some of the best runs in Canada including the Scotiabank Vancouver Half‐Marathon & 5k in June and the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon (an IAAF Silver Label race) in October. They will bring their considerable expertise in event management to Vancouver’s newest run and promise to create a positive impact on the eastside community.  Three local charities based in the downtown eastside will be announced shortly and will benefit from fund raising efforts from participants and sponsors.

“We’re excited to launch the Vancouver Eastside 10k,” said CRS Race Director, Alan Brookes (the recent recipient of a Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal for community service). “The staff at Canada Running Series are looking forward to working closely with community stakeholders to showcase the great character of this area of Vancouver.   The run will promote an active, healthy lifestyle for a broad range of fitness folks, on a flat, fast course attracting some of the country’s best distance runners.”

Vancouver Eastside 10k, which will take place on Saturday, September 14th , will start on the Dunsmuir Viaduct near Vancouver’s Roger’s Arena, head east on Prior to Raymur, then back for a loop of Gastown before returning to the finish line. The first year of the event is expected to attract more than 2,000 runners.

The Canada Running Series is the country’s premier road running circuit. Its aim is simply to deliver the best running event experiences to all participants whether they are elite runners at the front of the pack, or the everyday jogger at the back of the pack. In 2012 CRS attracted 60,000 participants and raised over $6 million for 300 mostly-local charities across Canada. The Canada Running Series prides itself on delivering great races, attracting the best athletes in Canada and offering some of the biggest prize purses in the nation.
