USADA announced today that Christian Hesch, an athlete in the sport of Track & Field, has accepted a two-year suspension for committing an anti-doping rule violation.

Hesch voluntarily admitted having used erythropoietin (EPO) which is prohibited under the USADA Protocol for Olympic Movement Testing and the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Anti-Doping Rules, both of which have adopted the World Anti-Doping Code (Code) and the World Anti-Doping Agency Prohibited List. Comrades Marathon Association confirmed that 2012 Comrades Marathon winner, Ludwick Mamabolo, has  tested positive for banned substances. According to newspaper Die Beeld, Mamabola tested positive for the stimulant methylhexaneamine. Thirty athletes are being investigated in connection with a suspected doping affair involving a doctor in the city of Erfurt, the German anti-doping agency said.
NADA said they were looking into each of the 30 cases where the doctor, once part of the Olympic base in Erfurt, is suspected of having used a blood infusion system after exposing the blood to UV rays. [Read more…]
