Wolde breaks Egmond record

Dawit Wolde breaks course record PWN Egmond Half Marathon

Dawit Wolde - Egmond Half Marathon 2012

Dawit Wolde - Egmond Half Marathon 2012

Today Dawit Wolde from Ethiopia broke the course record of the PWN Egmond Half Marathon. After a very strong race he won in 1.00.46. Meseret Haily, also from Ethiopia, finished as first woman in 1.11.18. Hilda Kibet became third in 1.11.45 as first Dutch woman.
Under perfect weather conditions the men were ready to compete with each other. The African athletes were leading the race from the beginning. At the beach four men were left over: Dawit Wolde, Gideon Kipketer, Samuel Tsegay en Assefa Belete. Untill the 18 km point the four were able to stay with each other, but at that point Wolde was able to speed up and left the others behind. A very fast last 3 km brought him the victory and an improvement of the course record. The old course record of 1.01.19 (Greg van Hest) was from 1999. Wolde was very happy with his vicotory in this Dutch race. The numbers two and three, Kipketer and Tsegay, were also able to stay under the old course record in respectively 1.01.03 en 1.01.09.

The PWN Egmond Half Marathon consists of one round through the coastal village Egmond aan Zee, seven kilometres across the beach and nine kilometres through woods and dunes. Thanks to this unique variety, the PWN Egmond Half Marathon is always an enormous success.
