Gareth Hyett close to PB in 1500m
Gareth Hyett went close to his personal best time in finishing second in the B 1500m at the international meeting in Heusden Belgium. Hyett recorded 3m 38.89s in a race won by Moses Barmasai of Kenya in 3m 38.74s.
Max Smith was ninth in 3m 41.53s. Dale Summerville was 12th in his division of the 5000m in 14m 11.39s. James Dolphin recorded 10.55 (+0.7) over 100m and 20.81s (+2.7) over 200m. Cory Innes clocked 10.91s (+1.7) over 100m. Paul Hamblyn was eighth in the C 1500m in 3m 45.09s with Brett Smith 14th in 3m 51.92s. At the same meeting Alan Webb of USA took nearly two seconds off his personal best in winning the 800m in 1m 43.84s.
At Liege Belgium James Dolphin was fifth over 200m in 21.05s (+0.6). Dwight Thomas won in 20.44s.
Aish 14th in Bix 7mile
Michael Aish finished 14th in the annual Bix 7mile road race in Davenport Iowa in 34m 12s after passing half way in 16m 50s. Duncan Kibet of Kenya won in 32m 15s.
University Games team warm up
Performances from some members of the University Games team on the Gold Coast last Thursday before travelling up to Singapore before going on to Bangkok were: James Mortimer 110m hurdles 14.23s (+0.3) and 14.29s (-0.1), Amanda King PB 1500m 4m 34.0s (HT) and Jessica Penney 6.01m (0.0) long jump. Unfortunately an equipment failure meant that the 1500m was manually timed, but King improved on her best by over 2 seconds.
Matt Smith wins Lyttleton 10k
Fastest times put up in the Governors Bay to Lyttleton 10km road race on Saturday went to Matt Smith 30m 35s in the senior men, Karen Muller 38m 6s, Brent Pulley 33m 3s in the masters men and Sara Philip 41m 5s in the masters women.
Hendriksen and Ward win at Glen Eden 10 mile
Winners in the annual Glen Eden 10 mile road race in Auckland were Jon-Paul Hendriksen and Sally Ward who finished sixth overall.
Gutsell athlete of the week
At last weekend's Southland cross country championships up and over the Waihopai River stop bank, Ricky Gutsell won athlete of the week for his victory in the senior men. Hannah Wall W19, won the women's 6km in 25m 6s.
