Athletics New Zealand has been granted the right to stage a prestigious IAAF permit meeting. The meeting will be staged at QEII Stadium in Christchurch on 21 February.

The two hour twilight meeting will start at 6pm. Athletes from New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific Islands will take part.

Events that will be held will cover 100m, 110m hurdles, 800m, 1500m, high jump, discus and 4 x 100m relay for men and 100m, 400m, 3000m steeplechase, 5000m, long jump, high jump, pole vault, shot put, discus and 4 x 100m relay for women.

Each event must have athletes from three different countries represented.

Interim chief executive of Athletics New Zealand Tony Murdoch said it was honour to be able to hold such a meeting, giving Oceania athletes a home advantage to secure IAAF points.

"It is an exciting opportunity for athletics and hopefully it will lay the foundation for future permit meetings in New Zealand," said Murdoch.

Raylene Bates, Athletics New Zealand interim services manager high performance programme said having a permit meeting was an attraction for Australian athletes.

"It will enhance the meeting and it is a huge advantage not having the cost of having to travel to Europe to gain points for the world athletic final," she said.
