Andrea Miller gave the Black Singlet Series a great start setting a New Zealand 100m hurdles record at the Caledonian Ground Logan Park Dunedin last evening.

The 24 year old competing for Taieri recorded 13.40s to eclipse the resident record of 13.56s and the national record of 13.42s, both held by Rowena Morton.

Miller is the current New Zealand champion and she also won the national title in 2002. Last season she finished second in the Australian championships.

Other highlights at the meeting were Craig Bearda of Counties Manukau who took out the sprint double with times of 10.54s for the 100m and 21.07s for 200m.

Anna Smythe of Hill City was sharp over 100m in 11.83s.

Phil Costley of Christchurch ran a fine 3000m in 8m 13.01s.

Melina Hamilton of Christchurch cleared 4.05m in the pole vault and Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Angela McKee of Waitakere was over at 1.80m in the high jump.
