Kimberley Smith eclipsed her New Zealand national 10,000m record with a second placing at the invitational athletic meeting in Stanford California yesterday.
Smith recorded 31m 20.63s, just under her record of 31m 21.00s set at Stanford two years ago.
The race was won by Jen Rhines in 31m 17.31s.
Smith has been selected for the 5000m at the world athletic championships in Osaka Japan in late August.
Her performance heralded an outstanding night of running for the New Zealanders at the Payton Jordan Cardinal meeting at Stanford University.
Michael Aish secured an A qualifying time for selection to the world champs with his tenth placing in the 10,000m in 27m 46.27s. This places him fourth on the New Zealand all time list over 10,000m and was just over four seconds outside Dick Quax's New Zealand national record set in London in 1977.
Kim Hogarth also goes to fourth all time over 3000m steeplechase after finishing fourth in 8m 29.12s. Hogarth received a further bonus securing a B qualifying time for the world championships.
Adrian Blincoe also gained a B qualifier for the world champs in the 5000m after winning in 13m 27.34s. Jason Woolhouse rounded out a great night for the Kiwis with a tenth placing in the 5000m in 13m 39.07s.
