Mary Davies

Mary Davies

New York City Half Marathon – 17 March 2013

Battling freezing temperatures Mary Davies finished 15th in the women’s section in 1h 12m 6s, just 16 seconds outside her personal best set in Edmonton Canada last August. Caroline Rotich of Kenya cut a minute off her best time in winning in 1h 9m 9s. Rotich led for most of the race running away from one of the favourites New Zealand’s Kimberley Smith, who did not finish. Rotich was 29th in the marathon at the 2011 world championships in Daegu.

Smith will now concentrate on the track and the 10,000m at the world championships in Moscow in August. She will attempt a qualifying time (Athletics NZ A standard 31m 35s) at the Stanford Invitational meeting at the end of the month. Her New Zealand national record is 30m 35.54s set at Stanford in 2008.

London Olympics marathon bronze medallist Wilson Kipsang of Kenya, who has a best of 58m 59s, won in 1h 1m 2s.
