AUSTRALIA
Brisbane Track Classic, Queensland Sport & Athletics Centre Nathan – 14 January 2012
Bronze medallist at the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games Andrea Miller was in fine form winning the 100m hurdles.
Miller showed a strong comeback after having surgery on her back clocking 13.56s, to beat compatriot Fiona Morrison who recorded 13.92s, with another Kiwi Veronica Torr fourth in 13.96s.
The New Zealand relay team of Andrew Whyte, Joseph Millar, Frazer Wickes and Alex Jordan were second in the 4 x 400m relay in 3m 9.74s. Australia won in 3m 5.84s. Wickes won the B grade 200m in 21.47s.

AUCKLAND
Athletics Mt Smart Stadium – 14 January 2012
Canterbury runner Margot Gibson made good use of the summer break and a permanent track in Auckland to test her skills over 800m. The former multiple national secondary schools 1500m and cross country champion judged the race to perfection pulling away over the final 150 metres to win in 2m 15.56s. “I’m up on holiday seeing family and getting some good races on a nice track – a proper track,” said Gibson. Gibson (17) said that she was quite badly injured last year.
“I took last summer quite easily and have been training well over the winter and looking forward to having a good track season and getting some decent times,” she added.
Madison Gipson back in Auckland after shifting to Sydney won the 60m in 8.03s (+2.0), the 200m in 25.43s (+4.0) and the W17 100m hurdles in 14.37s (+1.2). Isaac Tatoa was sharp in the sprints, with clear victories in the 60m in 6.74s (+3.6) and the 100m in 10.74s (+2.8). Another Canterbury visitor Kelsey Berryman won the women’s 100m in 12.68s (+1.8) and the W20 100m hurdles in 14.68s (+2.2). The M20 110m hurdles went to Campbell Wu in 14.86s (+2.2). Wu also won the M20 200m in 22.56s (+0.9). Scott McLaren won the senior 110m hurdles in 15.13s (+2.2) and the javelin with a throw of 54.36m.
Heptathlete Sarah Cowley won the 100m hurdles in 13.92s (+2.2), as well as the long jump clearing 6.01m (+3.1) also 5.89m (+2.0) and was third in the javelin throw.
Former national long jump champion Jeffrey Thumath was out to 7.05m (+3.1) in the long jump from Phillip Wyatt M20 6.62m (+1.8), Thumath also clocked 22.26s (+0.9) over 200m, while Elizabeth Lamb was over at 1.83m in the high jump, Siositina Hakeai sent the discus out to 52.59m, Shay Taylor rounded the 400m hurdles in 56.39s and Seton Hill claimed the 800m in 1m 55.02s.
From the Sovereign Stadium on Saturday in a hammer throw competition Damian Smuts was out to 50.88m and Ella Pilkington 40.95m.

O’Hagan’s Viaduct 5km, 10 January: Gavin Stevens 17m 9s from Jason Bray 17m 11s and Damian Brannigan 17m 14s. Lesley Ryan recorded 18m 59s with Claire Naden clocking 20m 1s.

HAMILTON
Open Meeting, Porritt Stadium – 14 January 2012
Palmerston North visitor Ben Langton-Burnell sent the M20 javelin out to 66.57m. Luke Davison won the M20 long jump with 6.36m (+3.0) and high jump clearing 1.95m. In the senior high jump Regan Standing was over at 2.03m. Alex Colvin won the M17 long jump 6.27m (+2.7). Blake Gordon won the M17 200m in 22.58s (+3.1), Abby Goldie the W17 in 26.19s (+3.9) and Kristie Baillie the SW in 25.06s (+3.9). Jacob Priddey won the M17 3000m in 9m 11.16s.

Eastside 5km River Run, 10 January: Michael Whitehead 16m 11s, from Tom Reynolds 16m 27s and John Crane 16m 56s. Kirsten Milne first woman in 19m 51s.

WELLINGTON
Black Programme, Newtown Park Stadium – 14 January 2012
Hamish Carson SM 800m in 1m 55.8s, Kieron McDonald M20 800m 1m 58.8s. Ariana Harper W17 800m 2m 20.44s. Tim Stewart M20 400m 57.88s. Sarah Drought SW 3000m 10m 4.34s, Malcolm Hodge M20 3000m 9m 28.39s and Jonathan Justice SM 9m 27.85s. Billy Crayford switched from the vertical to the horizontal jump winning the triple jump with 13.12m. Ryan Tinkle sent the M20 hammer out to 61.34m. In the 3000m track walk Terri Grimmett W50 17m 21.12s, Stuart Hood M17 17m 7.43s.

Lifestyle Sports Waterfront 5km Series, 10 January: Grant McLean won in 15m 58s from James Richardson 16m 20s. Gabrielle O’Rourke was the first woman in 18m 16s from Stephanie Mackenzie 18m 35s. In the walk John Roskvist 30m 10s and Terri Grimmett 30m 52s.

Colgate South Island Games, Saxton Field, Stoke – 13/15 January 2012
Among the highlights from the three days of competition were multiple winners:
G14:
Alison Andrews-Paul in the G14 400m 60.58s, 800m 2m 17.52s and 1500m 5m 01.24s.
Christina Ashton G14 80m hurdles 12.42s (+2.3) and 100m 13.11s (-1.7).
B14:
Jordan Pinnock B14 shot put 14.26m and discus throw 50.67m. Sean Eustace B14 800m 2m 04.00s and 1500m 4m 14.25s. Dean Van Der Busse B14 long jump 5.83m (+2.3) and high jump 1.80m.
G13:
Larissa McKewen G13 discus throw 30.60m and shot put 10.84m. Hannah Brotheridge G13 800m 2m 23.26s and 1500m 5m 8.68s also second in high jump 1.48m.
B13:
Siosaia Paese B13 100m 11.85s (+0.3), 200m 24.46s (-1.8) and 80m hurdles 11.82s (+2.2). Jack Bryant B13 shot put 13.86m and discus throw 43.65m.
G12:
Stella Pearless G12 400m 62.97s and 800m 2m 23.26s. Briana Stephenson G12 100m 13.81s (-1.7), 200m 28.11s (+0.6) and high jump 1.51m as well as second in the long jump 4.64m (+0.4).

Zane Edwards B12 100m 12.38s (+0.3) and 200m 25.77s (0.0). Bailey Cotton B12 discus throw 29.02m, shot put 11.03m and 800m 2m 20.06s.

CHRISTCHURCH
Shoe Clinic Asics 5km Series, North Hagley Park 3 January: Vajin Armstrong 16m 38s, by one second from Michael Smith with a further second to Matt Ingram. Alexandra Williams recorded 18m 29s with Sia Svendsen clocking 19m 53s. 10 January: In a close finish Nick Burrow won in 15m 51s, from Glynn Hadley 15m 52s, Thomas Holmes 15m 53s, Matt Ingram 15m 56s and Tane Cambridge 15m 57s. Alexandra Williams was the first woman in 17m 56s, with Lisa Brignull recording 19m 31s and Sia Svendsen 19m 37s.

DUNEDIN
Athletics, Caledonian Ground – 14 January 2012
Matthew Robinson was a double winner in the sprints recording 10.94s (+2.7) in the 100m and 22.23s (+2.6) in the 200m. Blair Grant won the M20 double in 11.12s and 22.94s. Nicole Bradley was out to 48.43m with the hammer, Dean Rusbatch won the M20 hammer with 48.49m. In the discus Marshall Hall threw 50.74m while Hamish Finnie won the M20 discus with 44.92m. Dougal Thorburn won the 3000m in 8m 37.40s with Alex Gorrie the best of the M20 in 9m 8.58s.
