Sydney police officer Sara Burgess set a race record of 2h 48m 40s in winning the women’s marathon, carving nearly 12 minutes off Lotty Turnidge’s 2009 record. It was Burgess’ tenth marathon and a personal best.

Kenyan Kip Kemei won his fifth half marathon in the country this year, setting a race record of 1h 6m 40s, breaking Steven O’Callaghan’s 2010 record of 1h 8m 2s. Graeme Taylor of Nelson won the marathon in 2h 33m 58s. Second was Daniel Clendon 2h 36m 3s, Peter Familton third 2h 37m 13s and Grant McLean fourth 2h 38m 0s. Lesley Turner Hall was second woman in 3h 1m 54s from Lisa Brignull 3h 11m 50s. Tim Hodge was second in the half in 1h 9m 16s from Chris Sanson 1h 9m 53s and James Richardson 1h 11m 23s.

Anne-Marie Madden of Canada won the women’s half in 1h 21m 36s from Jackie Mexted 1h 23m 39s. The 10km went to Cameron Goldsmid 32m 25s a minute ahead of Dave Ridley with James List third in 33m 37s. Sarah Drought won the women’s 10km in 35m 56s from Gabrielle O’Rourke 36m 46s and Stephanie Mackenzie 37m 42s.

The marathon walk went to Peter Zwart 4h 26m 34s and Anne Fraser 5h 8m 6s. The half walk to Alana Barber 2h 7m 0s from Vanessa Lowl 2h 10m 10s and Jeff Wells 2h 12m 12s. Jason Withell won the 10km walk in 59m 37s with Bridget Wade recording 1h 3m 8s. The Kids magic mile went to Tessa Hunt in 6m 4s.

A record number of 4721 runners and walkers from 16 countries took part.
